Toronto: Sights, Culture, Shopping

Neighbourhoods:

Toronto has a multitude of ethnic neighbourhoods, including Greektown (where the action keeps going until way after midnight), Little Italy, Corso Italia, 3 Chinatowns, Korea Town, Little Poland, Little India, Portugal Village. Other ethnic communities also congregate in certain parts of town and you can explore Jewish, Russian, Ukrainian, Somalian and many other restaurants and stores. There you can browse for ethnic food, fashion and art from far away places and check out delicacies from the entire world in Torontos more than 7000 restaurants.

In addition to the ethnic flavour that Toronto so plentifully offers, there are a variety of other unique neighbourhoods. Downtown has several interesting areas to visit:

- the Financial District with all its skyscrapers. It also houses the "underground city" - 11 km (6 miles) of interconnecting passageways under the streets that feature more than 1,200 retail stores and services.

- the Downtown Entertainment District bars and dance clubs galore

- Queen Street West a hip and eclectic shopping area

- the Gay Village: this is where Torontos large gay and lesbian community congregates. Here you can find bars, shops, restaurants and open-air patios

- the Fashion District with a myriad of fashion outlet stores and loft apartments that were converted from 19th century factories

- Harbourfront with its boat cruises and the ferry terminal, restaurants and art, theatre and music venues

- Rosedale and Forest Hill: two stately very upscale neighbourhoods in a park-like setting

- Cabbagetown: a former working class area, it now houses beautiful renovated Victorian homes

- the Distillery District: North Americas best preserved collection of Victorian industrial architecture, formerly the Gooderham & Worts Distillery founded in 1832. It now houses galleries, artist studios and workshops, boutiques, retail stores, restaurants, bars and cafs

- The Beaches, one of my favourite areas, with its shops, parks, sports facilities, bike trails and beach volleyball facilities are Torontos version of California on the waterfront.

Check out more information on Torontos neighbourhoods here.

Main Sights and Architecture

Being a relatively young city, Toronto has a rather eclectic mix of architecture which includes

- the CN Tower, at 553 m the worlds highest free-standing structure

- the Skydome, a modern multi-purpose stadium with a retractable roof

- the shiny downtown skyscrapers

- Historic Fort York, the site of the Battle of York during the War 1812 and the birthplace of modern Toronto

- Old City Hall, built in the Richardson Romanesque style

- the campus of the University of Toronto, Canadas largest university

- Casa Loma, built in the 1920s as a dream castle by Sir Henry Pellat, a wealthy famous Toronto industrialist

- Queens Park, the provincial government buildings, also built in Romanesque style

Culture: Theatre, Music, Museums

Toronto is the 3rd largest theatre centre in the world. Here you can enjoy Broadway-style musicals, homegrown productions, traveling road shows and classical concerts. Some of the great theatre and music venues include the Royal Alexandra Theatre, the Princess of Wales Theatre, the Elgin/Winter Garden Theatre, the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts, Royal Thomson Hall and many others.

A more complete list of theatres and production companies can be found at this link:www.showmetoronto.com/toronto_theatres.htm

Toronto also boasts a great diversity of cultural institutions and museums:

- the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)

- the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario)

- the Bata Shoe Museum

- the Hockey Hall of Fame

- the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art

- the Bay of Spirits Gallery Torontos finest collection of native arts and crafts

- Black Creek Pioneer Village: a collection of 40 restored homes, tradeshops, public and farm buildings, with interpreters and artisans in period dress

- The Holocaust Centre of Toronto

- The Ontario Science Centre

Markets and Shopping:

- St. Lawrence Market: the citys original market, where farmers, artists and artisans ply their wares. Known for the freshness and high quality of its meat, fish and farm products.

- Kensington Market: known in the 1920s as the Jewish Market, Kensington Market today is a collection of merchants from around the world. Here you can find fishmongers, street musicians, impromptu speechmakers and shoppers all crowding the streets.

- The Eaton Centre, Torontos famous indoor shopping mall, built around an airy atrium, features 285 stores in the heart of downtown Toronto. It is one of Canada's great public spaces.

- The Bloor Street/Yorkville holds many upscale designer boutiques, antique shops, galleries, spas and restaurants.

The Ironman and Overtraining

This is a statement I read recently. "Remember that when you are not training, someone out there is and you will lose to that person when you meet on raceday."

This statement was directed towards highly competetive athletes, but just the same, by its very nature, this reasoning can lead to injury.

I really believe that regardless if you are a pro triathlete or first time Ironman hopeful, this is not the best thought process to follow.

To me it makes more sense to worry less about the other person and concentrate on the training regimen that's best for you. Being afraid to miss a training day because someone else might get a step ahead of you is a recipe for disaster. All athletes have different physical tolerance levels and must progress within their capabilities and not push themselves when they obviously need rest.

Often an olympic athlete -- like a swimmer for example -- will suffer an injury and be forced to take 4 or 5 weeks off from serious training. Then soon after being back from injury, they enter a competition and have some of the best results of their career. You see it with pro athletes as well. A hockey player misses a week or two of playing and when he returns to the ice he has a career night.

To me the reason for this is simple. They were forced into giving their body a long period of rest that it obviously needed. Chances are they were over-training before their forced lay-off. Their bodies welcomed the rest and responded with amazing results.

Over the years I've had times when I've pushed my body to the limit just to see what I could do and if it would improve my race results. I was capable of enormous training regimens, but ultimately found that training more didn't necessarily result in better race results. More often then not it resulted in injury.

For example: Ten years ago I wanted to see if run-training extreme distances would give me my best ever Marathon result. Over a 5 month period I kept increasing my weekly distance. I maxed out at 155 miles a week. Probably more than most olympic marathoners train on a weekly basis. To reach that distance I had to run around 24 hours a week. It also meant doing two-a-day training. In other words, it wasn't unusual to run 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening.

The last month of training before I had intended to taper was a monster. The weeks went 140 miles, 145 miles, 150 miles and 155 miles or almost 600 miles in a month plus working a full-time job. It was during the last week and a half that I started to feel soreness in my heels. Like many other odd aches and pains I developed over the years, I just trained right through it assuming it would go away. Well it didn't. It became so bad that I had to go to a doctor and was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. It was an extremely serious case and cost me the marathon I was training for, and even an Ironman race 5 months later.

NOTE***I did mention to two different coaches that my heels hurt and it felt like they were bruised. They had no idea what it was. I told my doctor the same thing and he knew right away what the problem was. He diagnosed plantar fasciitis immediately. Ironically, when I looked it up on the internet later, it said that the first sign of plantar fasciitis is a feeling not unlike having bruised heels. To this day I don't know how both coaches failed to pick up on it, especially when they were documenting my weekly mileage. They could have saved my year. The lesson here: A coach is not a doctor. If you're injured go to a doctor.

Despite having my heel injected with an anti-inflammatory before the Ironman months later, I had to drop out 5 miles into the run. It was devastating injury and that was the last time I let myself over-train.

It really messed up an entire year.

My suggestion to anyone training for the Ironman is to listen to your body. Its true that often you will get numerous aches and pains and twinges that come and go as you put your body through the rigors of training for a distance event. If you quit training every time something ached, you would never train.

The best way I found to approach these nagging aches and pains was to monitor them "very closely." Say for example your heel begins to hurt like mine did. The first time you notice the pain do one more running workout. If its still there, STOP run training and concentrate on your swimming and biking. That's the beauty of the Ironman. Often an injury will allow you to do at least one of the other disciplines.

See a professional---a doctor or physiotherapist and tell them the problem. Had I done this it may have saved my entire year. Plantar fasciitis would have been diagnosed right away. A program of stretching 3 times a day and maybe some shoe inserts and I could have avoided the injury becoming chronic. At most I would have lost one or two weeks instead of the entire season.

So I believe this is the key to avoiding serious injury. If its a normal ache or pain it will disappear in a few days. If it persists through several training days, stop and get it diagnosed.

Pushing too hard in your training can have another serious consequense as well. You can just simply run out of energy and every work-out becomes difficult. Its times like this that training is just no fun. If you go out on a training run or bike and just know you have nothing in the tank--stop and go home. Take two or three days off completely and do things that have nothing to do with swim, bike, run. Avoid the mindset that you will lose all you've worked for if you take several days off. It just won't happen.

Give your body a break. When you return to training, you'll most likely feel re-vitalized and begin to enjoy training once again.

Strange as it may sound, my best competition year was when I decided to take extra days off whenever I felt drained. It was a complete about face from all the years that I just pushed through the fatigue. Training tired all the time often means you will eventually run out of gas somewhere on the Ironman course. Ultimately you will go into the race tired and thats the last thing you want in a major endurance event like the Ironman.

Remember:

-Listen to your body.

-Take a few days extra rest if you feel tired all the time.

-If a pain persists through a few training days, stop, see a doctor and concentrate on the events that don't aggravate the injured area.

-Don't worry about how everyone else is training. Do what works for you.

Dust Mites, Allergies, and Asthma

Millions of Americans suffer from allergies and asthma. If symptoms persist or increase indoors the odds are dust mites are causing or enhancing the problem.

Dust mites are tiny members of the arachnid family that live in homes all over the world feeding on dead sloughed off skin, which comprises up to 80 percent of household dust. Up to ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow can be due to dust mites, their feces and their dead skin.

For most people these little critters are benign freeloaders, but for people with asthma or allergies their waste can cause intense irritation and discomfort ranging from runny noses to severe asthma attacks. With the pervasive nature of dust mites making them the second most common cause of allergic reactions (after pollen) it would be nearly impossible to rid your home of them entirely.

However, with a little understanding of their preferred environment, it is easy to limit the effect dust mites can have on your health and comfort. Dust mites thrive in warm humid environments, as well as anywhere they are offered protection and food.

Furniture cushions, pillows, carpeting, upholstery, and particularly mattresses offer superb living quarters for dust mites. Remedying the issue may take a bit of effort, but will ultimately save unnecessary stress and discomfort. Be sure that all sheets, pillowcases, blankets, and mattress pads are changed and washed regularly in hot water to kill dust mites and remove their waste. Avoid clothe window covers, opting for plastic shades instead.

Vacuum frequently using a vacuum equipped with a high efficiency purifying air (HEPA) filtration system. Replacing carpet with hardwood or tiles may be necessary in certain cases.

The polyurethane foam used in most mattresses and cushions are for the tiny pests. This means that when allergy and asthma sufferers got to bed, where health experts say everyone should spend eight hours of every day, they are immersing themselves in a sea of allergens leading to a frustrating, unfulfilling night of sleep Recent years have seen the development of new technologies aimed at keeping mattresses microbe and dust mite free without sacrificing comfort.

The latex in latex mattresses and pillows creates an environment naturally unsuitable for dust mites, molds, bacteria, and other microbes. Amicor, a fiber in which active microbe eliminating ingredients are imbedded allowing it to maintain its antimicrobial properties through 200 or more wash cycles, can be used in fabrics for mattress and pillow covers.

When combined with wool, which is also naturally microbe resistant, a bed is created that provides an escape from allergens rather than a place where they wait to keep you itching.

Finding Your Niche

One of the most challenging things about first starting a website and creating your first e-book is figuring out what exactly to write about. I am going to give you a few tips and ways to research your ideas to make sure you have a solid market to work with.

To get some ideas flowing on what to write about, just pay attention to whats going on around you. What are peoples common concerns, what are people interested in, what are you interested in? Its also good to look for ideas by finding out who's already become successful and what they are writing about. A good website to find this out at is www.clickbank.com. Companies can sign up there to get affiliates to advertise their products for a percentage of the profits. Clickbank has them all in categories by market and you can look at the top 10 or 20 and really get a feel for whats selling best in that market. Go browse through a few and you may just get an idea or two! You can also watch infomercials, look through magazines, read direct mail, and browse through groups.

So you think you found an idea ? Lets check it out and see what the market will be like for your e-book. You can go to www.overture.com and check out how many people searched for your key words for your e-book last month. For example if you were making an e book about cooking, you would want to look up cooking, and you might want to look up the key words recipes baking, or cooking tips.

Also you'll want to make sure that your product can appeal to a large group of people. Think about the kind of people who would want to read your book. Is it a wide range of people who have things in common, or just a select few. The advantage of having a wide range market is that you can create a whole different course or e book and you can still market to the same group of people. It gives you the advantage of branching off into different markets within the same general market. Also a good thing to look for is something you are genuinely interested in. What are you passionate about? What would make you excited to write about ? If your passions aren't really that marketable, you may want to find an aspect of a larger market that interests you. I hope this gets some ideas flowing!

Best wishes!

Which is the Right Basketball Hoop for Your Home

A basketball hoop in the driveway, on the garage, or above a poured slab of concrete in the back yard is a must for hoops junkies. The new basketball goal is the perfect place to shoot some hoops with your kids, sharpen your own game, or get in a game of two on two with the gang from the neighborhood. However, before you go to put your basketball hoop up, there are things to consider. Where should you put it, how should it be attached, and what type do you want to get?

First and foremost, you will need to decide what kind of basketball hoop ou need. The three main types to consider are portable basketball goals, in-ground basketball goals, and wall mounted basketball goals. Only by considering the pros and cons of each kind will you be able to determine the best type of hoop for you and your home.

A portable basketball hoop is going to be best if you are someone who wants to be able to move your goal inside at the end of the day. It is also going to be your best bet if you dont want to go to the trouble of installing an in-ground goal. It is also perfect if your family moves frequently or lives somewhere that will just not work for a regulation court. The base that holds the hoop system in place is generally filled with water or sand, but is still easily moveable because of a set of wheels on the front of the base.

The more traditional basketball hoop is the in-ground goal. This hoop is actually anchored in the ground. In-ground goals work best for people or families that have a space where such a goal can be installed. This is usually ground just next to a driveway or a concrete pad that has been poured expressly for the purpose of basketball. If you are thinking of buying an in-ground hoop, take into consideration that it is a fairly permanent fixture and probably not for you if you plan to move in the near future.

The in-ground hoops can really be divided into inexpensive and heavy duty. The inexpensive are the type you would buy for younger children. They are not as sturdy and do not last as long, but they are fantastic for giving children a place to shoot hoops at home. The second type, the heavy duty in-ground basketball hoop, is great for both children and adults. Generally they have break-away rims to accommodate dunking and to give a truer bounce. The heavy-duty cost more, but will last longer and will withstand heavy use much better than the inexpensive brands. The heavy duty goals are generally best for those that are more serious about basketball.

Wall mounted hoops are also popular. Wall mounted goals are ideal for those who are have only limited space, but want to put up a more permanent basketball hoop. The wall mounted hoops come with brackets so that they can be mounted on an already existing area. They can be put on garage roofs, against walls, or even off of the side of your home if you so desire. These permanent basketball hoops are commonly found above garage doors for great driveway play. The installation on them is a bit easier than in-ground, but offers you the challenge of having to get on top of your garage or a ladder.

No matter which system of mounting your basketball goal you use, just make sure it is the best one for you. Find the right one and you will be giving you and your family a chance to play a great sport right outside your front door.

Champions League Round Up - 23 February 2006

Chelseas hopes to claim the Champions League for their own took a major setback after Barcelona won the first leg at Stamford Bridge. The Blues had Asier del Horno sent off after 36 minutes but the 5/4 favourites took the lead on the hour through a Thiago Motta own goal.

From then on it was all Barcelona and their breakthrough came with 20 minutes left when Ronaldinhos free kick was glanced in by John Terry for the second own goal of the evening. Samuel Etoo sealed the win for the 9/4 outsiders with 10 minutes left.

Arsenal had better fortune against Spanish opposition, producing a stunning win against favourites Real Madrid at odds of 9/2. The under-strength Gunners took the lead seconds after the break through Thierry Henry and became the first English side to beat Madrid at their own ground.

Liverpool may have seen Benfica as a favourable draw but it was the Portuguese side who took the initiative. Both sides struggled to create chances and a draw at 21/10 looked likely. But defender Luisao headed in for Benfica to give the home side a slender 9/5 win.

Rangers came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Villarreal. Juan Roman Riquelme gave the 13/8 Spaniards the lead with a penalty after eight minutes but Rangers hit back through Peter Lovenkrands. Diego Forland gave the visitors the lead again 10 minutes before the break but an own goal from Pena eight minutes from time handed the Gers a lifeline.

Rank outsiders Werder Bremen caused an 11/5 shock against Italian giants Juventus. Christian Schulz bundled in for the home side six minutes before half time but it looked as though 13/10 Juventus would come out victorious with goals from Pavel Nedved and David Trezeguet. However, Bremen were not discouraged and levelled through Tim Borowski with three minutes to go and found a stoppage time winner in Johan Micoud.

A free kick from Brazilian midfielder Juninho was enough to earn 9/5 Lyon an away victory against last seasons semi finalists PSV Eindoven.

European giants Bayern Munich and AC Milan could not be separated in Germany. Michael Ballack gave 13/10 favourites Bayern the lead but Andriy Shevchenko equalised from the penalty spot.

Finally, Inter Milan battled back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Ajax. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Mauro Rosales gave 23/10 long-shots Ajax a dream start but Dejan Stankovic and Julio Cruz levelled for the Italians.

Positive Thinking

The ultimate power of positive thinking is a cherished dream for many people around the world. Positive thinking means that you are allowing only those good thoughts into your mind, and such thoughts may include words, images and perceptions, which are suitable for personal growth and prosperity. Positive thinking also allows you to think everything good about life and its results. If you have a positive thinking mind, youll always anticipate happy life, peace, laughter, good health and financial success. It also means that you can unleash your mind to find whatever you want for your life. Positive thinking is so powerful!

Positive thinking is always beneficial to us; when our attitude and behavior is positive, we allow only pleasant feelings and constructive images to work in our mind, and also visualize in our inner eye, what we really want from our life and how it should happen. Such an attitude brings only good things like an enhanced inner energy level, catchy manners, twinkling eyes and success. A person with positive thought will walk and talk in an upright manner without any hesitation. The ultimate body language shows a tremendous capacity to achieve all things, which are considered impossible in the normal course of life.

Positive thoughts and positive people can not be avoided in manner, as in real life, they are highly contagious and infectious. Positive thinking people are just like magnets, capable enough to attract other people to follow them and act like them. This is often so true when you stay with highly positive people for a month or two, and study their impeccable positive behavior. This is known to occur almost unknowingly in our subconscious mind, almost on a continuous mode.

To create a turnaround to guide our mind towards positive thinking, we need makeshift work to change the way we think and act. Your old habits may never die and it is often very tough to get rid of your past baggage. Changing your old habits is also painful as you need to come out of your negative past and change the previous rules. Visualization may help you develop positive thinking process, and always visualize only beneficial situations. Talk positive and develop positive manners. Another improvised method to develop positive thinking is the recitation of positive affirmations and self talk. This method can be used in conjunction with the visualization process, just to supplement the overall result.

When we see Donald Trump on TV, we see a guy who is living the high life. Money, women and fame - all thanks to real estate. By media standards "The Donald" is a rich, successful real estate mogul. But, even he would have to admit that sometimes, he makes more money doing television than in real estate.

Whether you want a nice positive cash flow each month, ora cash profit on a quick resale, the only honest and ethical way to get there is EQUITY. Equity is the property value over and abovethe total amount owed on the property.

You may think that an investor who owns say, 50 houses, is probably very well set financially. He he might be...butif this investor has refinanced his properties to take all thecash out, or he paid too much to begin with, he may find himself on the brink of foreclosure or bankruptcy if vacancy rates climb.

One the biggest dangers I see today is the incredible paceat which home owners and investors are pulling equityout of their properties. (or worse, buying properties that havelittle equity to begin with)

Many investors are buying properties without even understanding how crucial equity is to their profitability. And homeowners who get 125% loans on their homesare asking for a foreclosure.

Regular readers know that I harp on the idea of keepinga minimum of 20% equity in every property you own. And the best reason to take lots of cash out of a property isfor the purpose of paying down debt on other real property.

Every week I get calls from investors who are desperate toget a fix on why they are losing money on a deal. The numberone reason I see over and over, is a definite tendency to take too much cash out of a property, which can kill yourpositive cash flow.

It's not flashy, it doesn't sell as well as telling someone theycan make $10,000 by next week, but buying, holdingand accumulating equity is the absolute bottom line rule forsuccess if you are a small investor. I don't want to burstany guru bubbles, but the facts are the facts.

Let's take my mom for example, who happens to be one of my favorite investors and also by far, the most conservative oneI know. She owns 5 houses all paid for free and clear. All are rented for an average of $525 per month. (Her location is Cedartown, GA., relatively low cost compared toAtlanta)Her personal residence is paid for too.

Mom is bringing in $2,625 per month in rent. Taxes and Insurance will get about $600 of it, leaving $2025. Over 12 months thatis $24,300. Not too bad. Added to other income and investmentsthis makes for comfortable, reliable retirement income.

On top of that, her passive income will increase over time as her rentgoes up. And, she is earning a solid 5% per year appreciation in thevalue of each property. Some of her houses have doubled in valueover the past 12 years. In terms of equity, mom is worth a prettygood chunk. In a good market, I'd guess about $800,000 justfor those 5 houses and her residence.

She took about 15 years to do it. Nothing fancy, just classic real estate investing. Anyone could do the same thing easily in10 years or less. But Mom knows that even when a property isowned free and clear, there are still unexpected events and coststhat will eat into your cash flow.

She represents the vast majority of the conservative, "never-been-toa-seminar-in-my-life", types who make up the bulk of the real investors out there. Some have 5 houses, and some have 75. I once workedfor a guy who had about 150 income properties. He was debtfree and had untold wealth in his equity. He had spent 30 yearsbuilding this portfolio, buying good deals as he came across them.

Like Mom, he also is careful to save money, avoid wasteful spending, andkeeps his equity in tact, so that his cash flow is in a safer range.

Equity gives you breathing room when the unexpected strikes. You might have a tenant that skips out on you, or a tree falls on the roof andyour deductible is $1000. Practical real estate investing requiresequity for long term safety and security.

In contrast, many of the best known real estate gurus have been broke and even filed bankruptcy. They could have used more equity.

Many people don't know that real estate guru Robert Allen, the author of "Nothing Down" and "Creating Wealth", which ignited the investing boom in the early 1990's, went bankrupt in July of 1996.

It appears that his no money down deals loaded him with too much debt. When interest rates went down and the rental market gotsoft, there was not enough real equity there to pay the bills.

Remember investing guru Robert Huff? Well known in the 1980's, he wound up in bankruptcy too.

There are many gurus and investors who like to argue that equitysitting in a property is money that is not being used. I understand their point, but I respectfully disagree. Taking equity out of a property also creates a situation in which that property requires more cash flow to sustain the costs. Then, when unexpected vacancies, higher taxes, or bad tenants come along, the investor is left with too much debtand not enough income to support that debt. The result can be catastrophic for the over-leveraged investor, some gurus have discovered.

Even "The Donald" has been broke. His restructuring of massive debt on his New York City properties during the late 1980's was the basis for his "comeback" to real estate glory. He got into a hole about 100 feet deep and then managed to get himself out. The book he wrote about the experience was a best seller that made him famous.

Mom probably won't be writing any books, but if she did, she would caution Mr. Trump not to be over leveraged. She will probably never be as famous as "The Donald" but what 'cha wanna bet she has more equity...

The Need To Perform

I can't believe how much of the year has gone by, but all the same, it's unbelievable how much I've grown through the year and most of it, from demolishing my need to perform.

I grew up playing a lot of hockey, being captain of both my schools when I was in Nigeria and London. The highlight of my career came when I was 10 on a wonderful warm day when we were playing an outdoor hockey game. Apparently I did some really cool skill with the stick and the ball. Everyone was like wow and clapping. I didnt really understand what I did, but nevertheless it was great and I learnt something. The entire sports department were talking about it for weeks. By the way, at that point, I went on to just shoot and watch the ball roll into the goal.

That is and will remain to be an unforgettable moment for me as everyone was congratulating me for the goal and my skillful moment. However, my attention was taken in another direction. In the stands, I saw my mum. I ran up to her, and she said, That goalie never had a chance. Hearing those words, and sensing that appreciation was a real awesome feeling, and from that grew my need to be appreciated.

Needs generally come from our experiences from childhood and perhaps they are something we really wanted, and never got. All our parents certainly did the best they could and for that we are really grateful. About 95% of the human population is driven by needs, but the extent to which your particular need drives you may be the deciding factor in how successful you are.

If we relate this to the music world, from a young age, you may have never really got the opportunities you may have liked to perform and so from that grew your need to perform. When our needs are unchecked, they act as engines, driving us to behave in ways that we believe will lead to the experience of having our needs fulfilled.

When a need exists, it is either conscious or unconscious. As humans, we are the only species in this universe that are conscious that we are conscious. We are the only species that are aware that we are aware. And as humans, we are constantly striving to meet our needs. This consumes a lot of our energy. What we need to do is really understand where our needs come from and eliminating these dynamics will transform your entire life.

My need of appreciation only made me strive to be appreciated so that I can be told that Im good and feel good. But that doesnt seem to last long as after a few seconds I need to feel good again. This wasnt really making me happier, just draining a lot of energy out of me. Its important to understand the energy we create when we have a need present in our lives. Think about when somebody gives you a call only when they need you. How does that make you feel?

When you are coming from a place of need, this is the kind energy you are giving off and thus this is the type of energy you attract back to you. Sometimes when you think that your need has gone and youre very clear about what you want to attract into your life but you still feel stuck, it is probable that if you dig deep, there is still a need that has a grip on you. Without addressing the need, we will continue to create the same problem (in different forms) until we eliminate the need.

Common needs that Ive seen are the need to be liked, the need to be heard, the need to sing, the need for security, the need to have money, etc. What are your needs? What is it that you want to do, and if you dont you get upset? What do you strive to do, but although you get the result, it takes a lot of energy out of you? These are your needs. It is good to know them. Most people go through life like this, really having a need and not able to live their true, free selves. You know better. Needs are easy to see and feel, yet we are usually blind to their influence on us. If you look closer, you can find that hold. A good way to identify a particular need is to consider these questions..

1. What are the patterns of problems in your life?

2. Where do you feel most stuck?

3. What causes you to get upset most?

4. Ask someone to say what they see at work within you.

By recognising and eliminating the need of appreciation, Ive been able to create my life on purpose and in harmony with my desires instead of feeding a childhood wound.

Next Portsmouth Manager - A Soap Opera In The Making

The race for the vacant Portsmouth manager's market has provided fascinating reading over the past week or so and over 13 million has been traded on Betfair. Frenchman Alain Perrin was sacked on 24 November after steering the club into the Premiership relegation zone without a home win all season.

Perrin had only been manager since April 2005 but had won just four matches out of 21. He replaced an equally unimpressive boss in Velimir Zajec, who mustered five wins in 21 matches and was himself only in charge at Fratton Park for five months.

Neil Warnock was the first manager in the frame and eager punters backed him into 1.20 (1/5). The former Notts County, Huddersfield and Bury manager had been in charge at Sheffield United since December 1999 but had made no secret his desire to manage in the Premiership. Warnock was set to hold talks with Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric until he decided to remain at Brammall Lane on 1 December. His Premiership dream may yet come true as The Blades are sitting pretty in one of the automatic promotion positions in the Championship.

The best was yet to come. Harry Redknapp, who left Portsmouth for bitter rivals Southampton, revealed in a crunch meeting with Saints chairman Rupert Lowe that he had always felt more comfortable at Portsmouth after he was refused permission to speak to his former employers about a possible return. Redknapp's position became untenable and he walked away from the club he joined just 12 months ago.

Over 11 million was traded on Redknapp, with punters eager to "buy money" backed him at odds as low as 1.01 (1/100) although some shrewd players managed to get a few pounds on him at odds as large as 59/1 previously, creating a no-lose betting situation.

However, there was yet another twist in this tale. Mandaric refused to pay Southampton the 220,000 compensation they demanded the remainder of Redknapp's contract, since the former West Ham boss was still technically under contract, leaving him in limbo.

Mandaric has now expressed interest in other managers, with Northern Ireland boss Lawrie Sanchez, under-pressure Rangers manager Alex McLeish and former Hearts manager George Burley all in the frame.

Despite this and numerous claims in the press that Redknapp has no chance of a surprising return to Fratton Park, he is still trading as low as 1.30 (3/10).
